Helpful Guidelines and Tips on Security and Surveillance Systems ...

Posted on 27. Jun, 2012 by freddy in business | No Comments

During the past few years, home and business security and surveillance systems have really become very technological. Thought-provoking developments in materials, features and wireless technology have made hard wired alarms and surveillance systems pretty useless. However, there are so many different things to purchase and unique applications to use that you must either hire a personal assistant or learn about these things by yourself. We will help you to suggesting many things that you should keep in mind while you are shopping around for security and surveillance systems for your home or office.

If you have a business, it would really be a good thing if you were to install a security and surveillance system. You can save about 22 percent on your business insurance if you install a monitoring system. Obviously, you will have to verify that you have the system in your company, but this will not be too hard to do. You probably are already aware that many insurance companies require some type of security system for security reasons. So, perhaps, if your current insurance company does not have this requirement, you may be able to save by switching companies. Be confident in your choice of surveillance and security system. Video is an integral aspect of all security systems; not necessarily the alarm component, though. But, you should research all application because you might be able to find a cheaply priced hidden camera for around four to five hundred dollars. If you have special applications for video, then that is another aspect to consider as well. There are some cameras that operate at their best when they have an operator. These types of surveillance and security cameras can cost you as must as five thousand dollars. So make sure you know what you are buying because you might get an item that is expensive and you don?t really need it.

If you are thinking about getting a system upgrade or want to get a new system, do not get a system that has a duress signal feature. What this means is that you have another code that you can enter into the system to turn it off, but the duress code calls another monitoring unit to say that you are being made to disable the alarm. Think about it, there can be a situation in which this is a realistic scenario in today?s world.

In the world today, it does not matter if you want a system for you home of office because with the options available on the market, you can find coverage with a ton of good security. Just like other industries, the creators are always trying to do better than the other by making systems that have more technological features. Plus, there are so many newer areas of security, surveillance, and general monitoring capabilities that did not exist just a few short years ago. You will also see that there are businesses that are really trying to obtain your business. What this means is that this kind of competition will be beneficial for you.

Economist shows the value of moving back with mom and dad

Monday, June 25, 2012

Though many may dread the idea, young adults who move back home with mom and dad after a job loss may benefit from it more than they realize. Research published in the Journal of Political Economy finds that returning to the nest can be valuable insurance in a tough labor market, serving as a short-term safety net while also keeping long-term earnings from being stunted by a job loss.

"Intuitively, it makes sense that people move home after an employment shock," said Greg Kaplan, an economics professor at the University of Pennsylvania and the study's author. "We've seen a lot of anecdotal evidence of this during the latest recession, but there hadn't been much hard data on how common it is or what the effects might be. This study demonstrates that the option to move home is potentially very important."

Kaplan used data on nearly 1,500 men born between 1980 and 1984. Surveys tracked the men through their 20s, capturing employment status and living arrangements for each month. By the age of 23, nearly 40 percent of the men in the sample had returned home for at least a month after initially moving away from home. Those who stopped working were 63 percent more likely to back move home in the following three months, compared to those who continued to work. Constraints of the survey data forced Kaplan to limit his sample to men who did not go to college, but an additional dataset suggests that the phenomenon applies to the broader population. "When we look at aggregate state-level data we see a similar pattern," Kaplan said. "As a state's unemployment level increases, so do co-residency rates."

The data show an important long-term advantage to moving home after a job loss. Take for example an average person in Kaplan's sample who loses his job at the age of 20. People in that situation had earnings at age 26 that were 25 percent lower than someone who did not lose a job. However, this long-term effect was concentrated almost entirely among youths who did not live with their parents and did not return home after their job loss. Those who lost a job and did move back home had essentially the same earnings in later years as people who had never lost a job.

Why does living with mom and dad serve as a buffer from the negative earnings effect? Kaplan believes it's because those living at home can be choosier when looking for a new job. They have the option to wait for a job that offers higher future earning potential. "Jobs with higher growth potential may be harder to find," Kaplan said. "And they often involve low earnings in the short run but higher earnings in the future?an internship for example. If you're living at home, you might be able to wait for these better opportunities."

But if you're on your own and need to pay rent, you need a decent-paying job quickly. Easier-to-find jobs?like food service or simple labor?have lower long-term growth potential. As a result people who are pushed into those jobs will have lower earnings down the line compared to those who can live at home and wait it out.

To test this idea, Kaplan used his real-world data to construct a theoretical model that simulates labor market choices. "In the model, I can do counterfactual experiments," he said. "I can take away the option to move home and see how important it is in different circumstances."

Using his data, Kaplan modeled how a 23-year-old might evaluate job offers in a world where the option to move home was turned on or off. He created two types of hypothetical jobs. "Safe" jobs come around often, but have lower potential for future earnings. "Risky" jobs are rarer, but have higher future earnings.

According to the model, there would be as many as 15 percent fewer youths working in risky, high-growth jobs if the option to move home is removed entirely, resulting in lower earnings over the long term. The model results echo the long-term income loss found in the real-world data and provide good evidence that the pattern is linked to constrained job choices for those who may be unable to move home.

USATF sets procedure for breaking 3rd-place tie

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) ? Bobby Kersee is struggling to make heads or tails of USA Track and Field's new procedures designed to help break the third-place tie between Allyson Felix and Jeneba Tarmoh in the women's 100 meters.

Heads or tails just might be what decides it.

The scenarios involve either a coin toss or a runoff to determine the third and final spot on the team for the London Games.

If both athletes choose the same option, it will determine the tiebreaker. If the athletes disagree, the tiebreaker will be a runoff. If both athletes decline a preference, the tiebreaker will be a coin toss.

Confusing? Kersee certainly thinks so.

The coach told The Associated Press the sprinters won't make any kind of decision until after they complete the 200 later this week. The final is Saturday.

Kersee wants them to fully focus on the task at hand and not worry about a possible runoff ? or a coin flip.

"Nine times out of 10, most athletes aren't going to want to flip a coin," Kersee said. "Would you go to the Super Bowl and after two overtimes or what have you, have the referees take both coaches to the middle of the field and say, 'We're going to flip to see who wins the Super Bowl?' I don't see that."

The national track governing body said they want the matter decided by Sunday when the trials end. Kersee said he will wait until 11:59 p.m. if he has to, just to ensure more rest for the sprinters.

He's fearful of a quick turnaround between the 200 final ? should both make it ? and another round of the 100. That could be a lot to ask of his athletes.

"I'm asking them to focus on the 200 meters, go through drug testing and hopefully they'll both make the team in the 200 meters," Kersee said. "Then we'll meet as a group, we'll meet with USA Track and Field. I will be in the room on the meeting, but I will have no decision-making power. I'm going to be listening, but let the athletes decide. Let the managers decide what they want to do ? I want the best for the athletes."

Kersee said earlier in the day he's in favor a runoff to break the tie. Only, he wanted the race held later, maybe even a few weeks later, on a track somewhere to be determined.

To decide anything right now, the coach said, isn't fair to Felix and Tarmoh, especially because they are both running the 200 that begin Thursday.

Felix and Tarmoh finished in a dead heat in the 100 on Sunday, each leaning across the finish line in 11.068 seconds. They're looking to join Carmelita Jeter and Tianna Madison on the team.

With no protocol in place at the time of the tie, the organization had to meet to come up with a plan, which was approved by the United States Olympic Committee.

And one of the options was a coin flip, with the rules as to how the coin will be tossed explicitly spelled out. For instance, it says, "the USATF representative shall bend his or her index finger at a 90-degree angle to his or her thumb, allowing the coin to rest on his or her thumb."

Being the coach of both, Kersee knows he has a conflict of interest in this situation. But he insisted he's only concerned with one thing: Doing right by his runners.

"You don't have to bother us about this now," he said. "You can wait until later."

Originally, Tarmoh was declared the third-place finisher and the official scoring said she had edged training partner Felix by 0.0001 seconds. But the results were reviewed, and after a lengthy delay, the dead heat was announced.

In swimming, ties are settled with swim-offs between the two deadlocked opponents. Track has tiebreaking procedures for many of its events, as well, but this is a special case for which there is no written solution ? a tie for the last spot on the Olympic team.

The USATF said in a release that two cameras are used to determine photo-finishes, one on the outside of the track and another on the inside.

In Saturday's race, the image from the outside camera was inconclusive for determining the finish because both runners' arms obscured their torsos.

The torso position is used to determine the finish.

The image from the inside camera, shot at 3,000 frames per second, was analyzed by timers and referees, who declared the tie.

Should the sprinters settle the matter with a runoff, Kersee said he won't be at the track for the race.

Sure, he will warm Felix and Tarmoh up. And yes, he will give them some last-minute advice.

But then he will head for the exit.

"I'll go on a long walk," Kersee said. "When I come back, I'll get the news on who did what."

Building larger porous coordination polymer architectures

Kyoto, Japan -- In what may prove to be a significant boon for industry, separating mixtures of liquids or gasses has just become considerably easier.

Using a new process they describe as "reverse fossilization," scientists at Kyoto University's WPI Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS) have succeeded in creating custom designed porous substances capable of low cost, high efficiency separation.

The process takes place in the mesoscopic realm, between the nano- and the macroscopic, beginning with the creation of a shaped mineral template, in this case using alumina, or aluminum oxide. This is then transformed into an equivalently shaped lattice consisting entirely of porous coordination polymer (PCP) crystals, which are themselves hybrid assemblies of organic and mineral elements.

"After creating the alumina lattice," explains team leader Assoc. Prof. Shuhei Furukawa, "we transformed it, molecule for molecule, from a metal structure into a largely non-metallic one. Hence the term 'reverse fossilization,' taking something inorganic and making it organic, all while preserving its shape and form."

After succeeding in creating both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional test architectures using this technique, the researchers proceeded to replicate an alumina aerogel with a highly open, sponge-like macro-structure, in order to test its utility in separating water and ethanol.

"Water/ethanol separation has not been commonly possible using existing porous materials," elaborates Dr. Julien Reboul. "The PCP-based structures we created, however, combine the intrinsic nano-level adsorptive properties of the PCPs themselves with the meso- and macroscopic properties of the template aerogels, greatly increasing separation efficiency and capacity."

Lab head and iCeMS Deputy Director Prof. Susumu Kitagawa sees the team's achievement as a significant advance. "To date, PCPs have been shown on their own to possess highly useful properties including storage, catalysis, and sensing, but the very utility of the size of their nanoscale pores has limited their applicability to high throughput industrial processes. Using reverse fossilization to create architectures including larger, mesoscale pores now allows us to begin considering the design of such applications."

Megaupload Founder Kim Dotcom Returns to Twitter, Promotes ?Megabox?

Kim Dotcom, the quixotic millionaire founder of file-sharing service Megaupload who?s wanted for extradition to the U.S., returned to Twitter this week to prove to the world he?s still creating new platforms despite his entanglements with law enforcement.

Dotcom also used the new account to announce that ?Megabox,? a new music discovery and sharing service, is still on its way despite his still being under arrest. He?s previously said that Megabox, which would compete with similar platforms such as Spotify, would let artists keep almost 90% of the profits made from their music.

Dotcom, arrested in New Zealand after file-sharing service Megaupload was brought down on charges of computer piracy in January, has also been using the reactivated Twitter account (@kimdotcom) mostly to post photos and thank supporters during his ongoing extradition hearing. In true Dotcom style, he?s also been poking fun at his situation, tweeting jokes about the FBI and police.

He?s also met with Apple founder Steve Wozniak, who visited him in New Zealand.

Dotcom?s assets have been frozen and he remains under house arrest in New Zealand while a court weighs the American extradition request. U.S. law enforcement officials have accused Dotcom and his staff of being a part of the ?Mega Conspiracy, a worldwide criminal organization whose members engaged in criminal copyright infringement and money laundering on a massive scale.?

The fate of the data still stored on Megaupload?s servers is still unknown. The Electronic Frontier Foundation is suing the Federal Bureau of Investigation over the files, which the EFF argues that the site?s users have a right to access.

What should happen to the Megaupload data? Share your opinion in the comments.

BONUS: The Strange and Epic Lifestyle of Megaupload?s Kim Dotcom

View As Slideshow ?

Until recently, Kim Dotcom was the top Modern Warfare 3 player in the world. He even apparently posted a video to prove it. We imagine it's tough to maintain such a coveted position while being held in jail for multiple copyright violations.

The Megaupload kingpin claims to have paid $500,000 for the City of Auckland to put on a 2011 New Year's firework display. In case any Kiwi were to forget who was funding the awesomeness, he produced a video replete with on-screen identification of his whereabouts during the show. "Yeah, that's me in my personal helicopter!"

3. Mega Man

Dotcom stands 6 feet 7 inches tall, and tips the scales at 300 pounds, according to CNET. No one really knows his exact measurements though. All reports we've seen have him measured differently so whatever his exact height and weight are, it's easy to see that his physical size matches his personality and ego.

4. Surname Switch

He legally changed his surname from Schmitz to Dotcom in homage to the beloved World Wide Web that made him famous.

5. Financial Bravado and a 9/11 Bounty

He once fancied himself an anti-terrorism fighter by offering a bounty of $10 million for Osama bin Laden after 9/11. He started a group called Young Intelligent Hackers Against Terrorism. He was so kind as to offer the authorities on the hunt a little of his own advice:

"Try Looking in Kandahar in Afghanistan. He visits his wife and daughter there at least once a month."

According to Vanity Fair, Dotcom is a "skilled and very fast driver" who raced in and won the Gumball 3000 in 2005. He bet that he would beat two of the female drivers. If they finished before him, he'd give them each $500,000. If he won, they had to join him in a threesome. No report on what came of that.

According to the Wall Street Journal, we do know that when he was arrested, police confiscated 21 luxury cars.

Even when the game seemed to be up, Mr. Dotcom orchestrated a flamboyant exit. Police had to cut their way through electronic locks to a saferoom, where they found him clutching a gun.

Dotcom generated a spectacle wherever he went, often surrounded by cars and women, and wearing his trademark black outfit. He was even known to jump into hot tubs fully clothed. He made movies about himself racing cars, flirting with women, and riding in helicopters and private jets.

9. Dubious Wealth Creation

According to The New York Times, in 2001 he reportedly made more than $1 million when he allegedly bought shares in a struggling website, then falsely announced he would make a major investment, only to then sell his shares once the price went up after his announcement. He then defended himself by appearing on a popular late-night show, claiming people hated him because they didn't like his lifestyle. He then fled to Thailand before ultimately being apprehended.

?

10. Big Time Friends

He commissioned this well-produced music video starring many celebrities supporting the site, ostensibly in part to rub Megaupload in the face of copyright holders. Much controversy ensued.

A long-awaited night of redemption for Sandusky's victims

BELLEFONTE, Pa. ? Juror No. 4, the foreman, gray-haired and middle-aged, stood high in the back row of the jurors' box, looked down at some sheets of paper, then at Jerry Sandusky and began to deliver a verdict a long, sad time coming.

Guilty. Guilty. Guilty.

Of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse. Of indecent assault. Of endangering the welfare of children.

Guilty. Guilty. Guilty.

Of terrorizing the poorest and most vulnerable of this area's youth. Of abusing his fame as a former Penn State defensive coordinator. Of conducting a charade of charitable work to supposedly help children.

Guilty. Guilty. Guilty.

Forty-five times it rang out. Juror No. 4 hammered each one home with the independent force each one deserved.

There were just three charges Sandusky escaped on. After each of those not-guilty counts, it seemed that the foreman raised his voice as he returned to this parade of guilty verdicts.

[Related: Dan Wetzel: Jerry Sandusky found guilty of child sex abuse]

He seemed to make sure each count was granted its own moment to linger, to emphasize the torture and pain and shattered innocence it produced. Oral sex. Anal sex. Fondling. One despicable act worse than the next.

Jerry Sandusky is shown after being booked early Saturday. (AP/Centre County Correctional Facility)

This here was a night of redemption, a predator laid bare with nowhere to hide, with no more lies to tell, with no one left to save him.

"Mr. Sandusky," Judge John Cleland said when this dramatic, nearly eight-minute condemnation was finally, fully read, "you have been found guilty by a jury of your peers."

Sandusky, clad in slacks and a brown sport coat, stood mostly motionless throughout, looking up at Juror 4 as the truth was slammed down onto him, as the light was finally and irrevocably cast on his behavior. His left hand was placed casually in his pocket while behind him his wife, Dottie, three adopted sons and an adopted daughter either shook their heads at the jury or openly wept.

Moments later, Sandusky gave a quick wave to his family as he was led out by sheriff's deputies. Judge Cleland will formally sentence him in about 90 days.

The 68-year-old faces up to 442 years behind bars, or what might as well be forever and ever and ever some more. His defense attorney, Joe Amendola, hinted at an appeal, but it likely would be fruitless.

On the other side of the courtroom, Victim No. 6, who as an 11 year-old in 1998 was abused by Sandusky in a Penn State locker room shower, an act that was investigated but never prosecuted, laid his head on the top of the bench in front of him and sobbed uncontrollably. He was soon hugging family members who had joined him.

"I'm just overwhelmed," he said, now a grown man, strong and no longer timid in the face of an old pathetic coach.

[Yahoo! Sports Radio: Dan Wetzel on the Jerry Sandusky verdict]

Soon reporters were racing out of the courthouse, set to break the news of the guilty verdict to a huge throng that had gathered on the steps. Dottie Sandusky was kneeling by then in front of her family, trying to provide comfort when the word of the verdict hit the masses.

The roaring cheers and screams of joy swept right through the courthouse door, up the stairs and into the second-floor courtroom. They startled Dottie, whose head snapped up at the noise and then sunk down as she realized the people of Centre County were celebrating her husband's demise.

Sandusky will be held at the local jail until he can be evaluated by the state prison system and assigned accordingly. He is expected to wind up in protective custody, away from the general population, for his own protection. That likely means 23 hours a day in a 6-by-8-foot cell. In other words, a concrete box of hell.

"He was prepared to go to jail tonight," Amendola said. "Mentally prepared. He's not scared. I think given the circumstances of the case and how the trial was going, he knew this was coming.

"This is not a surprise. This is what everyone expected."

Amendola said Sandusky's one regret was not being able to "tell his story" from the witness stand. His 33-year-old adoptive son, Matt, determined during the trial that Jerry abused him as a child. He made himself available as a prosecution witness. Matt couldn't be called, however, unless the state had introduced the incidents on a cross-examination of Jerry Sandusky. It was too much for the defense to risk.

"Even though Jerry, Dottie and the other kids deny Matt's allegation, it would've been explosive," Amendola said. "There was no way Jerry could testify without Matt being called."

[Related: Crowd cheers after verdict finds Jerry Sandusky guilty on 45 counts]

They walked Sandusky out the back door of the courthouse and to a waiting sheriff's vehicle, just 50 yards downhill from where they used to hang criminals in the courtyard of the old county jail.

Back then they'd invite as many people as they could fit to ring the gallows and bear witness. Those that couldn't gain admission would climb the roofs of local houses to watch the execution from high above in this old tightly packed, Victorian downtown.

That was the 1800s, but things haven't changed so much; just five miles from here, at the Rockview prison, is the state's execution chamber. And in Bellefonte tradition, a crowd gathered to jeer and scream Friday night behind the courthouse, to let their venom ring around Sandusky's head for eternity.

Happy Valley, indeed.

Jerry Sandusky is taken into custody after a jury found him guilty of child molestation. (Getty)

The verdict ended the fallacy that this was an area too devoted to Penn State football to render a fair and proper judgment. The anger at Sandusky was deeper than the outside world could fathom. There may have been a conspiracy to protect Sandusky in the highest levels of Penn State. That will be played out in legal proceedings against university officials, an independent investigation set for release next month and the inevitable slew of civil cases to come that will seek to tap into the school's $1.8 billion endowment.

None of that represents the rank and file here, not the good people who never hesitated to see Sandusky as a monster and were pained when he seemingly dragged the entire region's reputation down with him.

For at least 15 years Sandusky quietly stalked this idyllic, Rockwellian community, preying on its most susceptible boys. Using his Second Mile charity to meet at-risk kids, he often fostered relationships with the poor, the fatherless, the troubled or even simply the bored.

In one haunting bit of testimony, Victim No. 4 recounted that he compartmentalized the sexual abuse from Sandusky and endured teasing from classmates who suspected something inappropriate because he had so few positives in his life. The chance to leave his little town and troubled home for afternoons hanging around the Penn State football program were enough, he testified.

"I thought, 'I didn't want to lose this. This is something good happening to me,'?" he said.

This, time and again, is whom Sandusky chose to target, to trick, to molest, to injure forever. Under the camouflage of mentoring, he stripped them of their innocence and left them in a confused heap in an empty locker room or alone in a dark basement, used and discarded on some creepy waterbed.

During this trial a parade of victims overcame their own fear and embarrassment to detail, often with chilling testimony through sobs and gasped breath, what Sandusky did to them. They uncovered a hidden side to this bucolic region, where not everyone is wealthy and educated and as pure as Penn State's famous white uniforms.

They also cried about regret. Victim No. 4, now 28, said he wished he'd summoned the courage to come forward sooner and save the younger victims. Victim No. 9's mother wept at the memories of sending her son, against his wishes, to stay with Sandusky because she believed he needed a positive male role model.

Former Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary noted that he didn't punch out Sandusky when he discovered him in a shower abusing a boy in 2001 and instead let his university bosses handle the case. Which they didn't. A former Penn State police detective conveyed his frustration at not being able to convince the then-district attorney to charge Sandusky in 1998.

On and on it went. Years and years and years. Incident after incident after incident.

Until finally, deep into a warm Friday night, Juror 4 stood up in that box, representing 11 other citizens that had pored over each and every allegation during 21 hours of deliberation, and read from those papers.

Finally, it was over for Sandusky. Finally, the deception and protection were gone. Finally, this once hulking man, backed by the prestige of Nittany Lion football, propped up by the illusion of charitable work, had nowhere to run, no tale to tell, no one capable of keeping him from facing the awful truth of his life.

Guilty. Guilty. Damn, Damn Guilty.

Do-It-Yourself Home Improvement Tips And Tricks : The Wise Directory

June 21, 2012 ? Posted in Family?

Are you looking for a way to boost your home?s market value? Try a home improvement project! Updating and maintaining your house is also a good way to make it energy efficient and to save money. You may even begin thinking of home improvement as a hobby. The information below can help you to get started.

If you live in the suburbs near woods, think about putting up a fence in your yard. That way, you can prevent intrusions into your garden from coyotes, skunks, and rabbits.

Great quality materials don?t have to break a homeowner?s wallet; they just need to be long lasting and affordable. The reason is simple, decor and furnishings are taken when you move. Attractive and durable fixtures remain in the house and add quite a bit to the home?s resale value.

There are many small projects that can improve the value of your home. When you are hoping to sell your home, a couple of small improvements should be considered. One example is giving your home a new coat of paint. This is simple and can increase the value of your home.

Place several nail holes along the rim of the paint cans! This will prevent paint from filling the channels of the metal paint cans, and as a result they will not spill when you replace the cover. If you pound some holes in the top of the can it will prevent this problem from rearing its ugly head.

When considering quotes, opt for a contractor who uses letterhead. Letterheads can be a sign that the business is a professional business, one with a good reputation. This is something that you will want to take into consideration when deciding on who to hire.

Do you want to add sophisticated touches to your residence? A really good way to improve the look of your home is replacing your old door bell with an elegant one. This helps the visitor to get a different feel when entering your home again.

When remodeling a bathroom, add sufficient lighting. Sometimes people concentrate on bathroom fixtures during a remodel, and they tend to overlook the importance of proper lighting. Look for lights that can be easily installed around your medicine cabinet or mirror, and try to make sure the bulbs are easily replaceable.

Before you commit to bringing a particular contractor in to help with your home improvement work, take the time to call up their insurer and confirm that their liability coverage is still current. A lot of contractors keep an insurance card that is not effective so they have the appearance of having insurance.

Upgrading your appliances can not only improve your home, but it can help you save money, too. Upgrading old appliances could eventually pay for themselves due to them being efficient in their energy consumption. Your appliances can be replaced easily and quickly, thus making it a perfect home improvement project.

Check out several kinds of insulation if you are going to re-side your home. Some foams of insulation that you can choose from are permeable house wrap, rigid form insulation, and complete wall systems. Decide what you want to spend and then find out what each one costs.

Finding a trustworthy roofer is very important whenever you need work on on your roof. You should always research any roofing company you?re considering before you sign a contract. Make sure the company checks out with positive online reviews to reduce the chance of getting ripped off.

Weather stripping installed around doors and windows can make your home energy efficient. This is a cheap fix but can save you lots of money on heating and cooling costs for your home. You won?t experience drafts on cool, breezy nights, either.

Whether you have the advanced skills of a carpenter or plumber or just an eye for color, home improvement can be an engaging and rewarding opportunity. Changing the colors, materials or furniture in a room can give it a whole new look. Use the advice you have read to make your next project a snap!

(AP) ? Chesapeake Energy Corp has named a new chairman to replace its controversial founder, Aubrey McClendon.

McClendon, who remains CEO and president, was stripped of his chairmanship after a series of corporate governance issues angered investors. The issues included a report that McClendon took a personal loan from a company that was doing business with Chesapeake.

In McClendon's place, Chesapeake appointed Archie Dunham, a former ConocoPhillips chairman, as an independent non-executive chairman. Dunham, 73, has no prior relationship with Chesapeake.

"Archie is extraordinarily well regarded both inside and outside of the industry, and we are confident he is the right person to lead our board," McClendon said.

Dunham is a veteran industry executive and has served on major corporate boards for three decades. He was chairman, president and CEO at Conoco Inc. He oversaw Conoco's separation from DuPont in 1998 and helped negotiate its merger with Phillips Petroleum Co. in 2002. He currently serves on boards of Union Pacific Corp. and Louisiana-Pacific Corp.

Chesapeake also appointed four new directors that were chosen by the company's biggest investors. They are:

? Bob Alexander, 78, founder and former chief executive of Alexander Energy Corp.;

? Vincent Intrieri, 55, senior managing director at Icahn Capital LP. Intrieri also is chairman of CVR Energy Inc., and serves on the boards of Federal-Mogul Corp. and Dynegy Inc.;

? R. Brad Martin, 60, who also serves on the boards of FedEx Corp., First Horizon National Corp. and Dillard's Inc.;

? Frederic Poses, 69, CEO of Ascend Performance Materials.

The new board must work to reassure investors who have seen Chesapeake's share price drop 34 percent in the past year.

For years shareholders have criticized the way Chesapeake compensates McClendon and have called for greater accountability from the board. They're also concerned about the company's huge debts and aggressive spending plans at a time when natural gas prices are near decade-lows. The company is planning to sell up to $14 billion in assets this year to help pay off debts.

Chesapeake's top investors cheered the new board appointments.

"We believe Chesapeake is now heading in the right direction," said billionaire Carl Icahn, an activist investor who bought Chesapeake shares this spring as it was reeling from a rash of corporate governance issues.

News reports in April revealed that McClendon took out more than $1 billion in loans to cover his personal stake in Chesapeake wells. Some of those loans appeared to create a conflict of interest with groups that were planning to buy Chesapeake assets. Also, while leading Chesapeake, McClendon ran a private hedge fund that traded in contracts for oil and natural gas ? commodities that Chesapeake produces.

Chesapeake shares fell 37 cents to $18.67 in morning trading.

JetBlue flight makes emergency landing in Las Vegas

A mechanical problem on a JetBlue flight from Las Vegas to New York this weekend led to an emergency landing, grounding 135 rattled passengers.

JetBlue confirmed to ABC News that the captain of Flight 194 declared an emergency landing on Sunday because of a "mechanical indication" in the cockpit. Officials at Las Vegas' McCarran Airport said the aircraft had hydraulic problems in the air and had to return to the airport.

"People were getting sick. Some people were throwing up. There were a lot of people getting nauseous," passenger Tom Mizer told the New York Post.

One passenger told the newspaper that throughout the flight the plane continuously lurched from side to side and went into step turns. Another passenger said that people became sick onboard and began to vomit from the motions of the plane.

A flight attendant reportedly walked down the aisle during the aborted flight, telling passengers to look at her smile to see that she was not scared.

Once it had landed, the aircraft had to be towed to the gate because the front wheels of the plane had become inoperable, according to officials at McCarran Airport.

On Sunday, June 17, shortly after takeoff, the captain of Flight 194 from Las Vegas to New York's JFK declared an emergency due to the loss of yellow hydraulics. The flight returned to McCarran Airport, where it landed safely at 7:37 p.m. local," JetBlue said in a statement. "A replacement aircraft accommodated customers for a 10:13 p.m. local departure, arriving at JFK at 5:59 a.m. ET.

"JetBlue takes all incidences seriously, and the safety of our customers and crewmembers is our No. 1 priority. The actions the crew took in response to this event truly represent who we are and our core value -- safety," the statement read.

The flight was later scheduled to leave McCarran at 9:40 p.m., and land in New York at 5:33 a.m. local time.

Why it Pays Off to Enlist Debt Management Guidance ? Yapperz ...

In our current recovering economy, there are plenty of options in terms of fighting debt. Debt management is definitely a answer which has proved to do the trick for several. When dealing with a debt management business, you will find that you are able to pay off debt faster than predicted.

Debt management examines all facets of a person?s budget since it?s essential for consumers to recognize the way they built up unpaid debt in the first place. Not only should they want to be aware of how their current money situation is performing, they're going to need to measure how much they can manage to use toward previous money owed. They will certainly have a better understanding of these areas of personal finance when they talk with their credit counselors. The considerable presentation of personal finance that credit advisors provide for clients ensures a similar problem will not be made again.

Allow the Organization Work out Lower Interest Levels

A reducing of the interest rate by itself can make paying for a monthly bill less of a challenge. A lower interest rate may be used by the financial management organization for each qualifying debt of each consumer.

Qualifying Cases for Managing

People in several unique situations may be eligible for the debt management plan. These circumstances can be when:

? Consumers desire to have lower interest rates on their debt
Folks have many different debts and cannot manage to pay for them all off at once
? Alternative solutions they have experimented with failed to work
? These people are experiencing a fiscal hardship
? They may be receiving uncomfortable collections telephone calls

As soon as a consumer has been decided to be a good candidate for debt management, the procedure explained above can start. The company can consolidate the customer's debt into a single monthly installment with a decreased interest rate, usually able to be repaid in three to four years.

Even though debt management is an effective answer for many, it's not necessarily for everybody. It is crucial the client is able to afford to pay the business for the whole of the company's services. Many individuals who start these particular programs often do not finish them simply because they overestimated the money required to afford and use towards it. When this occurs, individuals must withdraw from the debt management plan. At this point, individuals continue to owe debts to the original creditors and lose fees paid to the company.

Details to Include in the Contract

People that can stay in the program are eligible to enter into legal contract with the management organization. Keep in mind that arrangments made with the company and creditors should be written down. It is important to establish in the written contract the length of the agreement and the total figure to be paid to the company.

Any time it is time to further improve ones own money situation then you might want to consider credit guard bad credit debt consolidation. This will allow you to obtain your economical life back in line, so find out about credit guard consolidation right now

Kickstarter pledges more transparency, publishes project stats page with daily updates

Every time we boot up a browser there appears to be a new iPad mount or Arduino project on Kickstarter, but just how many projects have there been to date? How many were successful? And how much might that microfunding startup be netting in commission cash? You can find all those answers through a new Kickstarter stats page (and some number crunching on a calculator), updated daily with key raw data that's tallied, and broken up by category as well. To date, 60,786 projects have launched, of which 24,986 (44 percent) were successfully funded, 31,722 failed and 4,078 are currently active on the site. Of the $261 million that's come in, $219 million has been in the form of "successful dollars," representing $10.95 million in income for the company itself based on a five-percent commission rate -- roughly the same amount raised for Pebble, a single project. Speaking of million-dollar-plus projects, there have been a total of seven, including one in the Music category, three in Games, two in Design and one in Comics (Pebble falls within the Design category, not Technology). There are plenty more stats to comb through if you've been hankering for a peek behind the scenes at Kickstarter -- it's all at our source link after the break.
