Why You Need To Build Multiple Streams of Income For Yourself ...

Author: Michel Maling | Total views: 69 Comments: 0
Word Count: 664 Date:

Everyday, hundreds of people all over the world join up with network marketing opportunities online, hoping to make riches, but often the opportunity that they join up with is closed down within a few short months. This is one of the main reasons that online entrepreneurs need to focus on building sustainable and long term residual incomes for themselves.

Problem is most internet marketers join every opportunity that comes their way, and then never actually make anything much in any of them. The reason is that they don't treat one opportunity like a business and work on that particular opportunity until they are actually in profit. Instead they try for a little while with one and then join up with the next best thing that comes around.

The secret to success is working your part time job just as hard as you would your full time job for at least six months or until you are in profit. Only after you have done this will you see whether or not the business will work out for you or not.

The other problem that many face is that they do all the above and then the company closes their doors just when you do start earning yourself a nice little income. Overnight, poof, their earnings have gone.

Okay, we all know that internet marketing is hard work and always will be. Only once you have in disposable income in your hands, can you make your money work for you and afford yourself more time to live your life. It will be hard work until then, building up your business and learning all there is about driving traffic to your program.

Here are some things to look out for before joining up with any MLM or Internet Marketing Business and what you can do to sustain your income:

1. When you find something that appeals to you, Google it and see what others have to say.

2. Try not to lay out any money unnecessarily. If possible, make some money first, then reinvest it into your business.

3. If there is a monthly fee involved, which there normally is in any good business, make sure that you will be able to afford the first three months at least, until you have something coming in.

4. Try to join up with opportunities that are either more than two years old, or that help you to build multiple streams of income in more than one different place. In that way if one of the streams collapses, then at least you will have another to sustain you.

5. Build up a good relationship with all the people that you bring into the business. Give your referrals all the help and support that they need, because if they are successful, then in turn your will also be successful.

6. Join up with an online opportunity that you only have to promote one URL and earn multiple streams of income. In this way you can focus your time more productively on promoting one thing instead of trying to promote many different things and thus dilute your advertising power.

7. Make sure that you invest money in a product or service, as there are many pyramid schemes to invest in with nothing to show for it, and these are normally the types of sites that don't last very long.

Network marketing is the wave of the future, as this is one of the only ways that you can build yourself a great residual income. A residual income is money that you are earning without having to put in hours of work each day, the way you would at a regular job. When you get to this stage, you will be able to enjoy your life more and not have to tie yourself to your desk for eight hours a day.

Music review: Third Angle opens season with John Luther Adams ...

How does sound evoke a sense of place? If the titles didn't tip you off, would you know that Ottorino Respighi's Roman triptych was about Rome, or that the honks and beeps of George Gershwin's "An American in Paris" were meant to evoke specifically Parisian traffic? Would commentators consistently identify northern imagery in Jean Sibelius' music if they didn't know he was Finnish?

The idea is central to John Luther Adams' "Earth and the Great Weather," with which Third Angle opened its season Friday night at Lewis & Clark College's Agnes Flanagan Chapel. In an epic piece of what he calls "sonic geography," Adams -- the Mississippi-born Alaskan composer, not to be confused with John Adams, the Massachusetts-born Californian composer -- aimed to create a landscape in sound drawn from the real landscape of northeastern Alaska, the location of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Like the place, the music was vast and austere. Forces were relatively few, with four strings (one each of violin, viola, cello and bass), four voices, and four percussionists, plus tape and electronic effects. The taped portion included texts in Inupiaq and Gwich'in with English translation, most of them descriptive of the environment, along with sounds of nature -- water, wind, birdsong. At times, delayed playback created a sort of electronic shimmer throughout the room, like the sonic equivalent of the aurora borealis.

The 10 movements progressed slowly and with a sort of organic grandeur, in long breathing arcs echoing the taped sound of wind that opened the piece. The three treble voices lent attenuated luminous dissonances; strings contributed eerie, glassy harmonics. Shivering bows in "The Circle of Winds" suggested both wind and the relentless mosquitoes of an Alaskan summer. Punctuating the structure were three movements of hard-driving, viscerally gripping percussion, reflecting Adams' early experience as a rock drummer.

In remarks before the concert, Third Angle violinist and artistic director Ron Blessinger said the ensemble liked to stretch itself, and that "Earth and the Great Weather" required a lot of stretching -- "it's musical yoga." For the audience, too, it was a stretch, though not in the way that modern music is often said to be. Extended over an uninterrupted hour and a half, Adams' simple, often atmospheric sonic geography both centered listeners in a sound environment and transported them to a remote place, part real, part imaginary and thoroughly distinct.

look 'closely' at the edges on the maple in that stack and you can see that I have an alignment issue on my TS.

I'm trying to figure out Where the problem is though...

when I start a cut, it goes fairly smooth until about 20" into the cut, at which point i need to Both slow down and increase the pressure I'm pushing with... to the point of popping a breaker if I push too hard/fast. taking it slowly, I can get through, but with burnt edges. I've switched blades, both of mine are either 'in dire need of sharpening....' or something is out of whack.

I've checked and as near as I can tell the blade is parallel with the fence, and with the miter slots.

now this is the 'best' evidence I've got that the blade and fence are parallel.. I don't have a gauge, so I've used a square, marking a tooth and measuring distance fore and aft to the miter slot and the fence.

HOwever in mid cut, I'm getting a gap:

For the first time in his presidency, Barack Obama can call himself a job creator.

There are now more U.S. jobs than when he took office. Not by much, but they've moved out of negative territory, according to a Labor Department revision.

It probably won't help Obama much in his race for re-election. The economy is still a long way from firing on all cylinders.

But the revision ? showing employers added 386,000 more jobs than had previously been estimated in the 12 months ended in March ? was clearly good news for the White House as Obama heads into a crucial week.

The focus of next Wednesday's first presidential debate will be the economy. On Friday the September employment report comes out.

Economists don't expect much change in the jobless figures from August's 8.1 percent unemployment rate.

Still, "we are making progress," said Alan Krueger, chairman of Obama's Council of Economic Advisers. The White House can now claim a net gain of about 100,000 jobs under Obama.

Still, unemployment has been stuck above 8 percent since early in Obama's term, budget deficits have topped $1 trillion for four consecutive years and economic growth has slowed to a trickle, expanding at a scant 1.3 percent annual rate in the April-June quarter.

Republican challenger Mitt Romney portrays Obama as a failed job creator. Romney says he would create 12 million jobs if he's elected president.

Polls have suggested a recent shift in public opinion, with some for the first time showing Obama ahead on handling the economy.

Romney campaigned in Pennsylvania Friday. "My priority is job creation and growing incomes," Romney told donors in Philadelphia "My priority is not trying to punish people who have been successful." He also attended a rally in Wayne, Pa.

Obama had three fundraisers, all in Washington, D.C.

Another big Supreme Court term kicks off Monday

WASHINGTON (AP) ? When last we saw the chief justice of the United States on the bench, John Roberts was joining with the Supreme Court's liberals in an unlikely lineup that upheld President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.

Progressives applauded Roberts' statesmanship. Conservatives uttered cries of betrayal.

Now, the Supreme Court is embarking on a new term beginning Monday that could be as consequential as the last one, with the prospect for major rulings about affirmative action, gay marriage and voting rights.

Many people on both the left and right expect Roberts to return to the fold and side with the conservative justices in the new term's big cases. If they're right, the spotlight will be back on Justice Anthony Kennedy, whose vote typically is decisive in cases that otherwise split the court's liberals and conservatives.

But Roberts will be watched closely, following his health care vote, for fresh signs that he's becoming less ideologically predictable.

It may be that the dramatic health care decision presages "some shift in his tenure as chief justice," said Steve Shapiro, the American Civil Liberties Union's national legal director. "Or does it give him cover to continue to pursue a conservative agenda?"

The first piece of evidence could be in the court's consideration of the University of Texas' already limited use of race to help fill its incoming freshman classes, which comes before the court Oct. 10. The outcome could further limit or even end the use of racial preferences in college admissions.

Roberts has expressed contempt for the use of race in drawing legislative districts, calling it "a sordid business, this divvying us up by race," and in assigning students to public schools, saying that "the way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race."

The written arguments submitted by both sides in the Texas case leave little doubt that Kennedy, not Roberts, holds the prized vote. The challengers of the Texas program and the university itself cite Kennedy's prior writings on affirmative action a combined 50 times.

The court also is expected to confront gay marriage in some form. Several cases seek to guarantee federal benefits for legally married same-sex couples. A provision of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act deprives same-sex couples of a range of federal benefits available to heterosexual couples.

Several federal courts have agreed that the provision of the law is unconstitutional, a situation that practically ensures that the high court will step in.

A separate appeal asks the justices to sustain California's Proposition 8, the amendment to the state constitution that outlawed gay marriage in the nation's largest state. Federal courts in California have struck down the amendment.

Once again, many legal analysts expect Roberts essentially to be against gay marriage. "The outcome clearly turns on how Anthony Kennedy votes," said Georgetown University law professor Michael Seidman.

The justices may not even consider whether to hear the gay marriage issue until November.

Another hot topic with appeals pending before the high court, and more soon to follow, is the future of a cornerstone law of the civil rights movement.

In 2006, Congress overwhelmingly approved, and President George W. Bush signed, legislation extending for 25 more years a critical piece of the Voting Rights Act. It requires states and local governments with a history of racial and ethnic discrimination, mainly in the South, to get advance approval either from the Justice Department or the federal court in Washington before making any changes that affect elections.

The requirement currently applies to the states of Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia. It also covers certain counties in California, Florida, New York, North Carolina and South Dakota, and some local jurisdictions in Michigan and New Hampshire. Coverage has been triggered by past discrimination not only against blacks, but also against American Indians, Asian-Americans, Alaskan Natives and Hispanics.

The court spoke skeptically about the provision in a 2009 decision, but left it mostly unchanged. Now, however, cases from Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas could prompt the court to deal head on with the issue of advance approval. The South Carolina and Texas cases involve voter identification laws; a similar Indiana law was previously upheld by the court.

It is unclear when the justices will decide whether to hear arguments in those cases. Arguments themselves would not take place until next year.

Yet there still is a chance that the court could become enmeshed in election disputes, even before the ballots are counted. Suits in Ohio over early voting and provisional ballots appear the most likely to find their way to the justices before the Nov. 6 election, said Richard Hasen, an election law expert at the University of California at Irvine law school.

Among other important cases already on the court's docket:

? A high-stakes dispute, to be argued first thing Monday, between the business community and human rights advocates over the reach of a 1789 law. The issue is whether businesses can be sued in U.S. courts for human rights violations that take place on foreign soil and have foreign victims.

? A challenge to the use of drug-sniffing dogs in two situations. Florida police used a marijuana-sniffing dog's alert at the door of a private home to obtain a search warrant to look inside the house. The question is whether the dog's sniff itself was a search. A separate case looks at the reliability of animals trained to pick up the scent of illegal drugs.

? A challenge to the detention of a man who police picked up a mile away from an apartment they had a warrant to search. Occupants of a home may be detained during the search for the safety of officers, but this case tests how far that authority extends away from the place to be searched.

? Environmental disputes involving runoff from logging roads in Oregon and water pollution in Los Angeles.

Paul Clement, the Republican lawyer who lost the health care case and could be before the justices on gay marriage and voting rights, said last term punctured the notion that in close cases, the court goes where Kennedy wants.

"We've all been reminded that's not always the case," he said.

The idea that could be tested this term is whether Roberts' concern for the court as an institution that is apart from politics will influence his votes, or at least his reasoning, in the year's biggest cases.

Moon? Mars? No, it's seaward ho!

THE vastness of Earth's oceans and the limited extent of our knowledge and occupation of them often invites comparisons with space. But they are much more attainable than the moon or Mars. Hence the enduring fascination with "seasteading", the idea of building permanent settlements at sea (see "Brave new sea worlds to redefine society").

Those who push the idea are often dismissed as libertarian fantasists. The seasteading movement has its fair share of those, but it is also home to pioneers longing to conquer a new frontier.

We already have The World, a private residential yacht with permanent wealthy occupants cruising the globe. That hardly fulfils the vision of wagons rolling west. But it may be the start of something bigger. Shifting climate was what drove our African ancestors to colonise the world (see "Climate change determined humanity's global conquest"). As climate and population pressures ramp up, perhaps the lure of the wide blue yonder will prove irresistible.

Why I never trust GPS maps completely (and you shouldn't either)

23 min.

On a trip to Oregon's?Willamette Valley in the spring of 2010, I was using the Google-powered?Maps app on an iPhone 3GS to hunt down wineries while my friend drove.?

That's farm country, and driving on dirt roads is pretty much expected. Nevertheless, it seemed odd when the app told us to turn onto a gated farm driveway.?

Then we saw the sign: "Sorry your GPS brought you here. To get to the winery you came for, turn around and go back?" It was polite, but you could sense that the farmer who posted it was somewhere on his tractor, smirking.

There's an old sailor's adage: Always carry at least two forms of navigation.

While that no longer means "pack a sextant," it does mean you should at least?have a back-up GPS app, a separate GPS device?or even a honest-to-gosh?dead-tree road atlas when you're in unknown territory.?Thanks to the well-publicized shortcomings of Apple's new Maps app???the first one that's?not powered by Google data???our blind reliance on GPS apps has become quite clear.

As a tech writer and navigationally challenged human who's reviewed GPS gadgetry for 10 years, I've learned that?any system can be as flawed as it is useful, and you should never trust it 100 percent.

Back in the early 2000s, before we were married, my wife lived for a couple of years in Washington, D.C. and I would head down there from New York on weekends.?When you're driving along in D.C., numbered roads veer into lettered roads, and?you have to make a lot of weird corrections?every few blocks, all the while risking driving straight into a fountain or a statue of a man on a horse. While D.C. residents take pride in the "National Treasure"-grade mysteries of getting around the nation's capital, outsiders like me fail to appreciate it. So when GPS became a thing, I was all over that.

My wife and I referred to the first GPS navigator as "the other woman," but in reality, this authoritative, British female voice was a relationship counselor: When road rage was high and we weren't listening to each other, we would both listen to her.

During that period, I tested a lot of GPS products for my weekly column on Time.com and for pieces in the New York Times and Money Magazine. I got to try out all of the major brands, and compare them side by side.?With GPS, even D.C. was, for the most part, much easier to get around in.?

But there was one map error that constantly perplexed us: When driving back from the Pentagon City Mall to Southeast D.C., we would always be told to take an exit that didn't exist. New construction, you may think, but there was no evidence that the exit ever existed. At least not where it told us it was.

The sudden surge of consumer GPS gadgets around 2001 and 2002 was caused by the U.S. government allowing civilian hardware to access the?1-meter GPS?accuracy that had previously only been available to military devices.?

But GPS only tells you where you are in latitude and longitude?? building?the visual maps that need to be placed under those pinpoints is a challenging multi-billion-dollar endeavor. Even Google???which stood on the shoulders of mapmakers such as TomTom-owned Tele Atlas and Nokia-owned Navteq when building its remarkable geographical database???can get it wrong every so often.

The world is constantly changing???roads and bridges spring up, while old ones are closed off. Cow pastures become shopping centers. Restaurants and bars open and go out of business. A broken clock may be right twice a day, but?a map of the world really never is.

In 2004 or 2005, TomTom was pitching me on its latest dash-mounted navigator. I had favored Garmin (which used Navteq's maps, which experience had suggested to me were more reliable than the Tele Atlas ones used by TomTom). Nevertheless, I was willing to give TomTom (and Tele Atlas) another try. When I set it up, however, I noticed a real problem: My home wasn't on the map.?

The best rationale was that my street was part of a new-ish apartment development, but excuses don't work when you can't even get home! The apartment complex in question has since been added to the Tele Atlas database???sure enough, it?appears on the new Tele Atlas-powered Apple Maps app.

But even my preferred Garmins gave me trouble. When I went to the wedding of one of my best friends, out in rural Vermont, the GPS system would get me within a mile of his house, but leave me out on a road in the middle of a field. Finding his house from there?required dead-reckoning, though the balloons on the mailbox didn't hurt.

Down in Texas, visiting my brother-in-law, even a simple search for Starbucks once turned into an existential nightmare (made worse by lack of caffeine). The "point of interest"???those geo-tagged yellow pages that are the least reliable part of the GPS map experience???plopped a Starbucks smack in the middle of a quiet residential street. We never did quite figure out where that phantom Starbucks really was, or if it existed at all.

Smartphones were thought to be the holy grail, because they could download fresher (and therefore???we naively assumed???more accurate) maps on the fly. Never again would a random construction project take you by surprise. So we cheered the arrival in 2009 of bona-fide turn-by-turn smartphone?navigation, particularly the free version that?Google offered on the Motorola Droid and subsequent phones running?Android 2.0.

For iPhone users, GPS navigation was a double-edged sword, because without Apple providing a free homegrown navigator,?people who wanted live turn-by-turn instructions had to pay up in the App Store, sometimes up to?$100. The bulk of iPhone owners stuck with the native Maps?app, powered by Google, and even though it was only at its best?when you had a navigator riding shotgun, who could read out instructions,?its accuracy became the gold standard.

Cue all hell breaking loose when Apple swapped it out with their own approach, powered by the Tele Atlas map?database instead of Google's. The problems there are compounded: It's not just that some of the map data is screwy, it's that the points of interest that are pegged to the map can be way off.?

To make it worse, Apple oversold the 3-D multitouch map?manipulation. While?it looks insanely great when fully operational, it looks downright screwy when rendered wrong or used in an unsupported area (like most of the world). Apple bit off more than it can chew and, as CEO Tim Cook's apology indicates, the company is choking.

The other day, my family was packed into the minivan, heading from Seattle to a friend's house across Lake Washington. Our car's navigator was trying to take us over the 520 toll bridge, but Apple's Maps app was saying to go over I-90, which is free. We steered in that direction, and were glad we did: Turns out, the 520 bridge was closed all weekend.

It's at this point that a sane person just throws up his hands. If the free Apple upgrade works some of the time, and my car navi works some of the time, and I've also got the Garmin app and?Google maps via the browser, the real answer is the sailor's law: Reliance on one navigation tool is stupid, so always have a back-up.

Black youths exposed to more alcohol advertising, study finds | theGrio

NBC NEWS - African American youth culture is steeped in alcohol. References to booze have long been rife in rap music, and Jay Z, Sean ?P. Diddy? Combs and Ludacris are among the hip-hop luminaries who have promoted alcohol.

A new study?puts some fresh data behind long-standing concerns about alcohol marketing to black kids. Young African Americans ages 12 to 20 see far more alcohol ads on television and in magazines than youths in general, according to the report published Thursday by the Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Researchers said two key factors are at play: Many alcohol ads specifically target African Americans and African American youth consume more media than youth overall. For example, African American youths watched 53 percent more television than youths in general in 2010, according to Nielsen data cited in the study.

Frank Coleman, senior vice president of the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, a leading trade group, said he hadn?t seen the study and couldn?t comment on it. But he said the industry does not target youth. ?The beer, wine and spirits industry (is) totally opposed to underage drinking and spends millions of dollars a year fighting it,? Coleman said.

Supermassive Black Hole Destroying Proto Star System

If the orbit comes close enough to the black hole, and if the protoplanetary disc is large enough, tidal effects will destroy the protoplanetary disc.

Question is: why hasn't this destruction happened at the previous closest pass of the black hole?

From TFA:

"The star was likely formed in the stellar ring and later thrown into its highly eccentric orbit though a close encounter with one or more stars in the ring. The stars exchanged momentum and the red dwarf was tossed onto a new, deadly trajectory. "
