Sony acquired Gaikai in August, and since then very little has been heard. Well, Gaikai has just updated its website, and a slew of PS3 characters can be seen throughout.
Kratos, Sackboy and Nathan Drake confirm God Of War, LittleBigPlanet and Uncharted will be heading to Gaikai, while other franchisess spotted include Killzone, inFamous and even non-Sony brands like Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Mass Effect 3.
What form this will take we won't yet know, and the Gaikai website is still being coy about how the cloud gaming service will be applied to all these games. Will it bring all PS3 games to PS Vita, or can we play Uncharted through a browser?
The website mentions the Sony acquistion of Gaikai quite a number of times, starting with:
"As a new member of the Sony Computer Entertainment family, we're working even harder to ensure the world's best entertainment content is delivered instantly to you, no matter where you are in the world."
Elsewhere the Gaikai website discusses the future of the brand, stating "the future has never looked brighter. We're working hard with Sony Computer Entertainment to advance our cloud gaming platform, and we can't wait to unveil the next generation of it to you."
A Q&A section of the website does offer a few hints, however.?
To the question of why?Sony acquired Gaikai, the response is to "help SCE grow their ecosystem, empower developers with new capabilities, dramatically improve the reach of various content and bring breathtaking new entertainment experiences to end-users around the world."
That sounds like playing PlayStation games through your tablet or any internet browser to us.
No answer is given to the question about whether Gaikai will be coming to PS3 or PS Vita, either, but the response does at least suggest it could be on the cards, with more info in the future:
"Unfortunately, we cannot share any details at this point in time. What we can say, however, is that we're really excited about what the future will hold for Sony, for us and for gaming fans everywhere."
All sounds very exciting to us.
Check out the images of the new Gaikai website below, and see if there are any franchises we might have missed...
