Wow ? already 10 days through my self-imposed ?holiday? from social media. ?10 blissful days of not ?sharing?, not feeling like I ?have to? read my Google+, Facebook, Twitter and other various ?news? streams ? not feeling like I ?need? (or even want) to check in everywhere I go ? or let anyone know anywhere I?ve been ? no matter how cool I think it may (or may not) be.
It has really been mostly a freeing feeling so far ? although I do admit I?ve wondered if there is anything I?ve been missing out on ? ?Nobody from the social media circles I find myself in has bothered to call or email to check in. ?No party or event invites (outside of the usual media invites I receive as publisher of BellevueBusinessJournal.com). ?Just a couple of Christmas cards by snail mail. ?Then again, I haven?t really called, emailed or checked in with anyone from social media land either. ?And I haven?t been putting on or inviting people to any events or parties. ?Nor did I send out ?Holiday? cards.
Maybe that?s a hint. ?Just like as in many aspects of life, one gets out of social media what they put into it. ?Something to ponder for sure.
I actually really have been missing posting stuff I think is neat-O ? especially things that other people are doing in the worlds of health, fitness and nutrition. ?Perhaps I will go back to doing more of that on my blogs ?
Today I am very grateful for my time off from social media (outside of blogging and making videos which I don?t want to do without). ?I find myself with more time to accomplish my goals ? and that makes me feel good! ?When was the last time that YOU took some time off from social media?
